I think that everyone in North American should be forced to watch David Lynch’s Eraserhead. “Why?” you ask. To that I would answer because I don’t want people who watch an episode of Buffy or Angel to comment after the show “That was weird” because you don’t know weird until you’ve watched Eraserhead.
Eraserhead is my way out whenever someone says “isn’t that the weirdest movie you’ve ever seen?”. To that I repy “not really I’ve seen Eraserhead”. Weird and confusing movies rarely phase me. When I saw Mulholland Drive (another David Lynch film) with my brother he asked me to explain it to him. I said I couldn’t but I added on “it made more sense than Eraserhead”.
This is just one of those things that I think people should do. Kind of like I think everyone should own Paul Simon’s album “Graceland ” but that’s another story.

OMG. I watched Mulholland Drive the other night…I was thoroughly confused! I think about 2/3 of the way through the movie I realized I didn’t know what was going on, and then at the end I was more confused than I thought possible. I’m a David Lynch fan, but even this was too much for me. I don’t even know if a second or third viewing will clear it up for me!
BTW, speaking of movies…I saw Amelie (finally!) last night. You were right, I liked it. Great movie! 🙂
Have you seen Eraserhead? And Mulholland Drive is indeed confusing 🙂 I think the only David Lynch movie that made complete sense was “The Straight Story”. 🙂
You should rent the other movies by Jean-Pierre Jeunet – they are “City of Lost Children” and “Delicatessen”. They are a little weirder but visual amazing. The stories are great as well. Plus he did Aliens: Resurrection (which a lot of people dislike but I think is pretty good).
Graceland is a great album.

Yeah, I’ve seen “City of Lost Children” and I liked it, but Delicatessen is on my list of “to see” movies. Haven’t seen Eraserhead either, but if it’s weirder than MD, I’m not sure I could handle it. Haha! 🙂
My favourite quote from Alien: Resurrection:
“I should’ve known you’re a robot. You’re more human than humans.”
That makes me think because humans create robots. Or maybe that’s the point. If it isn’t man-made, it isn’t human.
And I’m rambling.
But then there is the weird movie with a plot: Brazil.
Misterblue: You are absolutely correct. Brazil is a weird movie but amazing. Plus if you sit down and think about it you can start understanding it. 🙂
