Fall is Coming

It’s getting cold out and I love it. Fall is my most favorite season of all. The temperature cools down (meaning no heatwaves) but it’s not too cold (meaning no snow). The leaves begin changing their colours, creating a beautiful pastel coloured landscape.
The only bad things about the fall are that the days start getting noticeable shorter and that winter is the next season.
One of the telltale signs that fall is here is the Labour Day long weekend. The last long weekend of the summer. The last hurrah before we start bundling ourselves in sweaters and coats. One last weekend to spend at the cottage.
Firda and I spent this past weekend at my family’s cottage. Sadly it wasn’t the best weekend, weather wise, but we still had fun. We arrived Friday afternoon, after taking our time driving up (i.e. stopping at thrift stores, stopping for dinner etc). Friday night was spent getting things set up, watching a little TV and then off to bed. Saturday we had bacon and eggs before heading out for the day. We drove to Parry Sound, just to see what was there, and there isn’t much but Firda still found stuff to take pictures of. On the way back we made our way through the Muskoka Lakes region. We saw a lot of big cottages, potentially owned by movie stars. On the way back the rain started (thanks to Tropical Storm Ernesto). We stopped for Chinese food before making our way back to the cottage, where we spent the night watching Star Wars Episode 2 before heading to bed.
Sunday we made the annual trip to Temiscaming, Quebec for poutine. We stopped in North Bay along the way to do some shopping. It rained for most of the day, but let up in time for dinner. Firda cooked up some amazing steaks and I put together a potato, onion, green peppers concoction. Good eats.
Monday we slept in, had omlettes for breakfast, hung out for a while, then packed up and headed home. The drive home was rather uneventful. No accidents, no moose, no rain. We got home in relatively good time. It was nice to be home, but sad since this would be the last time this year we will likely get up to the cottage. That is another bad thing about the fall.
P.S. Is the season “fall” suppose to be capitalized?
