The Binturong

I was watching a show on the Discovery network, called @discovery.ca, and learnt about a creature called the Binturong. According to the facts sheet they can be found in Indonesia and Malaysia so it’s possible that a couple of my readers for that side of the world may have seen them before.
They look kind of like a otter crossed with a raccoon. I think one of their coolest features is their prehensile tail. I love animals and learning about strange and exotic ones is always fun.

  1. You probably heard about the one that was running loose in some neighborhood in the US. I’d never heard of them before that. Apparently people breed them as a hobby. They look a bit dodgy to me though. Something about those claws and wicked, sharp little teeth…

  2. Hi Justis. It was because of the story about the one that got loose in the U.S. Neighbourhood.
From what I understand they look scary but they are mostly vegetarian. They will eat meat but only if it doesn’t take a lot of work. They seem to be pretty lazy 🙂

Hmm. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of them before. They’re not very popular here in Indonesia. Well, either that or they’re known by a different name here. It looks cool, though. Kinda cute, even.

  4. I’ve heard of binturong but have never seen any… hmmm

  5. Yup, I’ve heard of the binturong too, and I think we can find it in the Singapore Zoological Garden.

  6. i just like the sound of the word “binturong”. I think that’s all I’ll be able to say today. binturong. binturong. binturong. Say, can you please pass me the binturong? That’s a might nice binturong you have. Could you pour me a hot cup of binturong?
