Second Friday Five for the new year. Here we go:
1. Where do you currently work?
As a research engineer at the University of Waterloo.
2. How many other jobs have you had and where?
I will break it up into pre-undergrad, during undergrad and post-undergrad.
Pre-Undergrad: stock boy at Stedman’s in Waterford (I lost my job when the company closed all their stores), two summers on corn farms working as the grunt labour (lifting and carrying bags of corn here and there), three summers working with the Sewer and Solid Waste department at the Region of Haldimand-Norfolk (doing among many other things painting fire hydrants and helping with home sewer problems, glamourous isn’t it?).
During Undergrad: Since I was enrolled in the co-op program at the university I spent two years of my almost five years in undergrad (no I didn’t fail this is the normal length of time for an undergraduate engineering degree at the University of Waterloo). During those two years I worked for Husky Injection Molding in Bolton Ontario (where I was a cad monkey in the Robotics department), Goodyear Tires in Napanee (yes where Avril Lavigne is from) as a process engineer (meaning I tinkered around with the tire making machines and tried to improve them) and Wescast Inc. in Brantford where they make exhaust manifolds for cars and trucks and I worked as a process engineer once again.
Post-Undergrad: I worked as a research assistant during my graduate studies which is similar to research engineer except you don’t get paid as much.
3. What do you like best about your job?
The laid-back atmosphere. I’ve very rarely been stressed in this job since research is a slow process.
4. What do you like least about your job?
Sometimes I least like that research is a slow process. I like keeping busy. If I’m not keeping busy then I feel like I’m wasting my time being at work and why am I not at home reading or something?
5. What is your dream job?
Not really sure. Something to do with toys. Maybe Lego Engineer or Video Game Tester. Who knows?

I thought you’d say that your dream job was Lego Engineer when I read this week’s Friday Five questions at Rebecca’s 🙂
I think you’d enjoy being a Chocolate Tester as well. Mmm, chocolate!
I think my dream job is to be a writer for a travel book or magazine so I that can travel to exotic places for free.
