You never think it could happen to someone you know. One of the Mechanical Engineering profs at my University was shot in the head in Trinidad over the weekend. He is in criticial condition in a Trinidadian hospital. I guess he and group of Canadians were on their way back to the hotel when they were robbed at gun point. The robbers ran away and Rob, the professor, flagged down a vehicle to take them to the hospital. The vehicle ended up being the robbers get-away car.
I can’t believe it. My prayers are with him and his family.

Wow. I’m sorry to hear that. It is always a real jolt to the system when you hear things like that. Did you know him well?

Not really well but he was supervisor to a couple of friends who are former grad students. It was just so senseless. I heard it was his birthday as well. Though that came from the local news station and I don’t tend to trust news reporting.
