Subdivisions are Evil

I went out for a bike ride this afternoon since the weather was beautiful. I decided to do some exploring and see where certain trails went and attempt to find the part of the Transcanada Trail that runs through Waterloo. I had no problems finding the transcanada trail. It’s actually kind of funny how I sometimes forget that I’m so close to farms and wilderness. You can drive North, West or East for about 10 minutes and be out of Waterloo.
Now back to the story. On the way back I had no problems retracing my steps until I got to this small subdivision. I rode around for about 20 minutes trying to figure out where I was and how to get out of it. Eventually I figured out that I could have made it out in about 5 minutes if I just remembered one important thing. The streets in Waterloo make no sense. Streets go North to South and then go West to East and vice versa.
I eventually made it home. It was a good ride. I’m a little sore right now, since it was only my second ride this season, but it’s a good hurt.

I rode a bike for the first time in almost two decades last week when I was visiting an aunt (it was my cousin’s bike). I could still ride the bike but my navigating skills seemed to have disappeared completely. I almost collided with another biker when I was making a turn. Luckily, the other biker was not as clumsy as me. And to think that I used to be so proud of my ability to ride a bike with no hands…
Things that are high on my list of things to buy as soon as I can afford it:
    1. a bike
    2. a new pair of glasses
    3. a new computer
I’d put the computer on top of the list, but it’s the most expensive of all and I’m not very likely to afford it so #3 it is.
Weee, I just blogged in your comment form! You should feel special. I haven’t blogged anywhere today. And I’ve been up for over 30 hours. I can’t sleep. I have too much on my mind :-
