Since I work at the University I tend to be surrounded by students a fair amount of the time. Today on my way to school I saw something that I thought was interesting in a almost uniquely Canadian way. I was walking to my office when I saw a girl with a pair of ice skates around her neck either going to or coming from a class. I thought that was pretty interesting since I doubt you’d ever see that in university in warmer climates. I’m thinking she is going to be using the indoor ice rink at some point during the day (since it’s suppose to get up to a whooping 5 degrees Celsius today).
I had a friend who went to Charelton University in Ottawa. Ottawa gets really really cold during the winter (just ask the Booge). They also have the Rideau canal which runs through parts of Ottawa. This particular friend lived in an apartment building along the canal. The university is also close to the canal. So he would get up in the morning, put on his ice skates and skate his way to school. This just seems a very uniquely Canadian type way of transporting yourself around. I would imagine that Russians do it as well (since they have similar area of climate with Canada) and they have excellect ice skaters as well.
