“We’re Almost the Same Country”

I always find it humorous when I read stories about Americans not knowing anything about us, their Canadian neighbours. Here is another news article about that. The article was brought on by the indifference of George W. Bush and the American public to the four Canadian soliders killed by American friendly fire in Afganistan, and the booing of the Canadian National Anthem at several sporting events.
I don’t agree with the title phrase “We’re Almost the Same Country”. Canada and the States are similar in many ways but our attitudes are much different. I think I will stop at this point so as not to chase away my American readers.
My final thought. I like Americans, as individuals. I’m just not very fond of your countries ideals and beliefs. πŸ™‚ Please don’t hate me.

    Shhh!!!
We canna allow the Americans to know we do not live in igloos, and that we do not ride around in polar bear fur suits on rabid moose!
Their ignorance on our country, means more amusement πŸ™‚

  2. Hi Troy
I couldn’t be more embarrassed or sickened by my countrymen than I was after hearing about the Canadian anthem being ‘boo’ed – especially in the light of the terrible incident in Afghanistan, and our president’s inability to at least pretend to be sorry about it.
Go ahead and vent. You’re certainly entitled. As an American myself, I wish my country was more like it was supposed to be, and less like it is.

  3. I’m American… but I defected. πŸ˜‰
I am *so* glad the crowd at game 7, Leafs vs. Kings, cheered the American National anthem, just as I suspected (and posted) that they would.
Have you seen that commercial with the annoying American chick saying “So you’re from Canada? Do you know Glen? He’s from Canada. He works in an office, he’s from Canada, he plays hockey. He like, says “eh” a lot…” And then the guy interrupts her and says calmly, “Sure, Office Glen. He’s dead.” Then pats her on the shoulder and walks away.
I lmao every time I see that.
    I love those commercials.

that’s it troy. i’m breaking up with you now.

  6. GoalieGirl: I love those commercials as well. I stilll like the one where the American is bugging the Canadian guy in the office and he ends up pulling his shirt over his head, like a good old Canadian hockey brawl πŸ™‚
Nikki: Guh? πŸ™‚ As I said. I like American individuals. I have plenty of American friends πŸ™‚

  7. I love the Glen is dead commercials…they make me laugh as well….

  8. I can’t agree with you more. I’m Irish and I’ve always felt much the same as you about Americans – don’t like the country, but like the people.
    Oh, and hi, SMooSH!
