A couple of days ago we had a discussion about religion and same-sex marriages which centered on religious beliefs and moral attitudes. While I was surfing today I found this site which once again shows to me how religion can be used to spread ignorance about the world around us.
As a lot of you know I put more of my so-called faith in Science. I believe in evolution. I believe that the universe has existed for billions of years. I believe that there is no governing power over humans. At times I think that there may have been a cosmic presence (and there may still be) but I wouldn’t call it God or Allah or anything else. I do believe that we are still part of the universe, since the laws of thermodynamics states that “energy can not be destroyed” so my energy will still exist and be recycled throughout the universe, but enough about my crazy ideas.
The thing that scares me the most about this site is that a large percentage of it is directed at children, especially the Creation Science Fair (albeit it was in 2001). Any science fair where 2nd place goes to a project called “Women Were Designed For Homemaking” which applies “findings from many fields of science to support his conclusion that God designed women for homemaking: physics shows that women have a lower center of gravity than men, making them more suited to carrying groceries and laundry baskets; biology shows that women were designed to carry un-born babies in their wombs and to feed born babies milk, making them the natural choice for child rearing; social sciences show that the wages for women workers are lower than for normal workers, meaning that they are unable to work as well and thus earn equal pay; and exegetics shows that God created Eve as a companion for Adam, not as a co-worker.” It saddens me that children are exposed to this stuff but it saddens me even more that some of the children will believe it.
Check out some of the other sections, especially the creation education articles where faulty logic and idiotic arguments run amok. Most of their arguments consist of “if the Bible says it’s this way we don’t have to look for proof and must accept it or we will burn in hell for the rest of eternity”. Oh and while your at it check out Professor Giraffenstein a cartoon made especially to fill childrens heads with lies.
In the words of SMooSH “I keep looking for the punchline on the site…” but sadly there isn’t one. Scary.

You just have to read the whole thing… especially the part where the atheist wilderness guide is beaten-up by the Christian paleontologist (who calls it “fisticuffs”), and then, in a cliched, melodramatic moment that would make Ian Fleming proud, reveals his role in a vast conspiracy to hide the dinosaurs from the creationists.
Oh… and he was sure to convert all of the African savages to the “truth” of Christianity along the way.
hmmm…. The more I poke around on this site, and its partner sites, the more I get the feeling I fell for a huge joke. These sites have got to be a prank.
And I totally fell for it. This is the best parody I’ve ever read. It’s too good to be real.
Oh no… I will not even give a site like that one extra hit for their traffic.
However, I do know a writer who might put it in the “Oh My God Oh My God Oh My God” series of frightful links.
I truly hope it is a joke. If it is I fell for it good. I really hope it is. Then I have more faith in humanity (though they could have let us in on the joke) 🙂
