Dental Work

Like Dave I too had the pleasure of visiting my dentist for a round of “dental work” (a.k.a. mouth and teeth molestation).
A little dental history. I have horrible teeth. I’ve had way too many filings in my lifetime. I’ve also not had dental insurance in about 6 years. This means I visited the dentist for the first time since 2002 at the end of May. Why did I do this? Because a quarter of my upper left wisdom tooth chipped off. As well the tooth I had my route canal on (in 2000) seemed to be falling apart. So I went in, got checked out. Found out I had the get the wisdom tooth extracted (with plans to extract all four), had tooth decay or two teeth (beside each other) and would need to get a crown on the route canal tooth (which is one of the teeth with decay).
Today we handled the tooth decay and the first step for the crown. I was there for two hours. The freezing only wore off half an hour ago, and my jaw is kind of sore (likely from the freezing needles ripping into my muscle tissue). In two weeks I am getting the permanant crown, and two of my wisdom teeth pulled out.
Now I need to ask you guys something. Have you had your wisdom teeth pulled before and how was it? Were you put under, or did you just have freezing? From what it sounds like I’m only going to have freezing. The dentist is planning on it taking an hour. I hope it’s not that bad. My route canal wasn’t too bad and I trust my dentist.
Thanks. Now I’m going to rest 🙂

  1. I was put completely under, because I decided to have all four taken out at once (there was no way I was going to go through the ordeal twice… and decided on one-stop shopping).
The only problem that I experienced was when I woke up early. As I was being wheeled to the recovery room, I snapped awake, only to have the nurse start freaking out because “YOU AREN’T SUPPOSED TO BE AWAKE YET! YOU AREN’T SUPPOSED TO BE AWAKE YET!”
The aftermath (for me) was uneventful. They gave me meds for the pain, and all I had to do was use a syringe to squirt water in the holes to keep things clean.
I ate ice cream and soup for a couple of weeks, which was actually pretty sweet!

  2. I’ve had one wisdom tooth pulled out and I only had freezing. It must have been pretty easy, as I can’t remember much about the whole thing. Usually the bad experiences stick with you. One of my friends had two removed and she also had only freezing. From what I understand it can be really easy if the roots aren’t big.
