One of those Jobs….

Before I get into my rant I want to make sure you all know I enjoy my job (which I’ve been at since May). Now with that said I rant!
Have you ever had one of those tasks that you just hate doing? I’m currently involved with one of those tasks. The place I’m working for is doing a review of a chemical piping system for one of our clients. They’ve had problems with some of the work done by the company that installed all of the piping and decided to get us to do a thorough once over of the system to make sure it’s up to code. I’m the one who is assigned to take care of this task. What this entails in running around checking every single little pipe fitting and cataloguing them. It’s a little tedious. Plus it’s probably going to take a couple of weeks.
I understand why I’m doing this. I understand that I have to and I will do it and finish the report for our client.
I just needed to get that off my chest. Tell me stories about your “bad” job experiences. I’d like to hear them.

I worked on a twenty page, 400 row, 400 column spread sheet for five months, finally completed it, working fomulas in every cell, speared through formula’s to different notebooks, etc, and sent it out to Canada and North East US, and it was wrong. It was awful, and I found out it wrong a half hour before I left for vacation. I feared I would have no job to come back too…

  2. Firing people. I hated doing that. But it was part of my job. It really sucked when they made me fire one of my best friends. She was one of the bridesmaids in my wedding, and before I had my daughter, we went out dancing along with about 5 other girls every weekend.
She has 3 kids, and she was the main breadwinner of her household, but her personal phone calls had gotten to be too compromising, and I had warned her about this for the past 5 performance reviews. The CEO finally made me do it, as much as it pained me. I cried. I cried in the middle of the meeting when I fired her.
Good news is, we are still friends today, and that was over 2 years ago. Thank god the friendship survived. I don’t know what I would do without her at times.

  3. My business card says Assistant Manager, Marketing & PR department. The boss says I’m being trained to do secretarial work.

  4. Uhm, I work for a website development division in my organisation.
Once a guy from other bureau called us and my boss was absent.
He scold me for about half an hour for a website I never handle (because it turns out to be my boss’ outsource project) and emphasizes on the money.
Excuse me, I’m not paid by YOU. When I tried to say this, he just went nuts. I stop saying things and put down the phone. After he’s done cursing or whatever it was, I pick the phone again and said goodbye.
My boss called right back when I texted him, and says apology a couple of times.
Now, the site is up and running and I’m damned proud that I’m not part of it, because it doesn’t even validates.
