Friday and Saturday were one of those long drawn out winter storms. It snowed and snowed – ultimately dumping a total of 37 centimeters (14.5 inches). Between 11 pm to midnight the snow died down and I figured I would go out and do some shoveling in the parking lot (since we needed to get out of it in the morning). I shoveled out a section around my car and noticed that one of our neighbours was digging out as well. I asked him if he needed help and he accepted. I asked him if he was heading somewhere and he mentioned that a friend of his was stuck and needed help. So we dug, and pushed, and dug, and pushed, and after much work we got him out.
A couple of minutes ago there was a knock at the door. I opened the door and it was the neighbour. He handed me a card (with a 10 dollar Tim Hortons gift card in it) and thanked me for helping him on Saturday. I didn’t expect anything from my neighbour. I did it out of the goodness of my heart (AWWWW). I figured on days like that everyone needs to be extra helpful and considerate. Plus I kind of enjoy shoveling snow, even though I’m sore.
Anyways the moral of the story is that – be nice out of the goodness of your heart, especially during a snow storm 🙂
Addendum: The note in the card mentioned that after my neighbour rescued his friend, they helped an old man who had been in an accident get to safety. It’s funny how the world works.
